Dear friends:

Microcreditos: primeras beneficiarias

Today we are writing to bring you the news about the Amigos de Tara projects that you make possible with your help and support. Now, we would like to inform you about the micro-credits project.

At the beginning of March, after weeks of preparatory work in Kolkata, Natalia (our Chairwoman) and Marieke (the responsible for the project on the ground), proposed to start a pilot project with mothers of Tara School students’ who show some interest.

After we reached an agreement with Narres Nandy, local co-ordinator and expert on micro-credits, and with the necessary participation of our Indian counterpart, Seva Sangh Samiti, we have begun the project activities, such as the following:

  • Information and selection of candidates
  • Creation of groups (one already confirmed, with 7 women, and another one that is in the creation stage)
  • Specific training and education in values…
Last 20th, the first loans were handed: it was a small step, so exciting for everyone who has contributed to this goal. Some of the self-employment projects, to which the credits were appointed, are the purchase of a ricksaw bike,of a cow, and/or the sale and purchase of vegetables and spices. Our aim is to have the project settled down, and to arise the interest of other women linked to Tara School through their children, not only to help the financial situation of the poorer families, but also to reinforce the role of women in the decision making, and, therefore, improving some other aspects of their lives (hygiene, health, values…).

Once again, we’d like to thank all of you for always being there, and remind you that we are at your disposal. Please, receive all our love.

We’ll keep on informing you.
