New course: new classrooms opening

Dear Amigos de Tara:I hope all of you are doing very well. In Kolkata , these days, we are reaching 40 grades centigrades. Summer is all over here!. With this heat we are all looking forward the arrival of the monsoon, and stronger than last year, as we hardly felt it at that time. The new session in Tara School, started two weeks ago, and with many news. Starting with our students number which now reaches 320! We´ve almost triplicated our students since the opening of our School five years ago. We are all very happy with this fact that we consider shows progress and development in our so important work. The sad side is not been able to accept all people that applies for a vacancy. As every year, we keep loyal to our selction rule and choose the poorest among the poors. Our teachers team have been also increased for this new session; Chandra Prasad and Anita Toppo, are now part of Tara´s family, and with them there are 16 teachers and 6 workers, a total of 21 members. A few days before classes started, we were all preparing for the big day: admissions, visiting families, preparing the class subjects, tailoring new uniforms…On top of all this, some internal changes in the team made our days unlimited exciting; Papia Sarkar, one of our most veteran teachers, has beed selected as School assistant director, to support Rhana Catón work, actual coordinator in Kolkata. Also, Pintu, one of our most brilliant teachers, is moving to Nepal, to assist our School there. Pintu, that knows very well Tara´s spirit, will be assistant director of the School in Nepal. We are sure that his support will be very much benefitial for the Project. And Carolo Parra, our beloved volunteer on site, is also going to be part of the Tara´s team in Nepal, from August. We are confident about these changes and will benefit both projects. The idea keeps on being two local teams that lead the projects with all our support. In fact that is already a fact. We´ve really got the cooperation. We have a team that is very envolved and devoted to our mision. A really fortune for ADT.And on top ofeverything, the opening of the new rooms in the New Tara´s building has taken place. Still unfurnished,( we´ll use mosoon holiday to furnish it) we are already using four new rooms. The bathrooms of the new building will be finished in the following weeks. I´m leaving to Nepal to prepare the new session there. I´ll let you know. Many thanks to everyone for being there. We keep connected. Natalia

Victor Peter: In Memoriam

Dear Amigos de Tara: The first time that I saw Victor Peter, already 6 years ago, his enormous smile captured me and I could not resist to invite him to be part of Tara´s teachers team. At that time, he hardly spoke English and I hardly spoke Hindi, but the Light on this face was enough to know the human quality that was in his heart. Along the years , his potencial as a teacher and as a social worker were developing and manifesting in each of his actions. He was very fortunate and proud of his job. After a life of misery and lost, he had finally found some peace and hope. He used to repeat time after time that thanks to Tara, his students had a real childhood and an opportunity to get out of poverty. His contribution to that, made him so happy and because of that he said that he wanted to keep the rest of his life as a Tara School teacher and he smiled… Six months ago, when the doctor diagnosis leuquima and very few posibilities to recover, he couldn´t beleive it. For a while his smile was fear to the unkwound. But soon he showed us again his brave and positive spirit . Being him, more than once, the one taking care of the Tara family that seeing his situation , was hard for us to hide our sadness. In the most suffering conditions that a human being can find, he was a real example to all of us: he never complained even having so many reasons for doing so and without keep smiling he joked about the painful effects of the quimiotherapy. UIT a weak voice he kept saying that he would get well to come back to Tara… He faced the third phase of the treatment without almost defences, and although he kept fighting for living, at the end he could not resist it and he left. He left relaxed, accepting that his time in this life was over, with the satisfaction of knowing that he did his best…and with a pleasant smile. His absence today, makes even stronger the feeling of unity in Tara´s family, accepting destiny we miss him. Victor Peter was one of Tara´s School teachers in Kolkata, supporting his foudation. He was always ready to support his comunity. His commitment with the most unfavourable ones has been invaluable for the Project´s development and for a proper future for our students that today remember him as a great friend. Where ever you are Victor, From my Heart many thanks. Be Happy. Always. Natalia Miss

A piece of soap

Dear Amigos de Tara:Greeting from the mountains from Nepal! Little by little we are saying good bye to the winter, dispite of the chilly morning, the sun warm us softly daily. Life here is simple , basic. We have to go to the fountain for water, warm it up to have a bath, there is no TV neither entertainment at all. Vehicles cannot reach here, so we have the singing of the birds as a company and of coures, the children. Days in Tara School in Madanpur go positively. Step by step we are building a closer relationship with families, students and discovering their realities, which allow us to find solutions to their dificulties. Still many of them are not use to go to school daily, so we are trying to let them know about the importance of discipline and constancy. The majority of our students , still have to walk long distances to go to School, so fighting with the laziness that implies is not an easy task. But we trust that with patience and love everyone will understand it. The object of the teachers team is giving a peaceful and happy environment to motivate them to come. We give them once and again our support and worries about everything that happens to them, so they could understand that here they are important. I feel very happy about the willingness of all the teachers that daily make a big effort to become better themselves and go further than being just a teacher. They are starting to understand and put into practice their qualities as social workers worried about their society. For the first time, yesterday, we gave some soap to the students for them to wash their hands befote eating. That was very exiciting and funny as well. A big revolution for the village!. Children wash themselves in the village´s fountain, so the neightbourghs didn´t wait long to go there and watch the scenary. I guess here they are not so familiar with soap as I could see the kids faces and the black water coming out as they were washing their faces off. I still surprise myself how common things in our western society, here become like a big event. Once again I recall how fortunate I am and cannot less than feeling a deep gratitude to these beings from whom once and again I don´t stop learning. Thanks to all.
Success of the Charitable show Dances for Solidarity

Dear Amigos de Tara: Last 11th of december in the presence of more than 200 people, ADT showed our work in the room Obispo Perelló in Madrid. After that, we celebrated the show Dances for Solidarity, in which more than 20 artists gave their talent and love for the benefit of the ones with most unfavourable conditions. An unforgetable night for everybody, that we hope repeating very soon. ADT wants to thank to everybody who made it posible and to all that went to the event.
